LEXICA

Terms of service

LAST UPDATED · 8 MAY 2026

These terms apply when you use the Lexica tournament features at vowelmovement.fun/lexica. The free game at the root of the site has its own terms. By subscribing or joining a tournament, you agree to these terms.

The service

Lexica is a paid feature of Vowel Movement that lets a single subscriber (the “organiser”) create private word-game tournaments. Other players join through a shareable link without creating an account. We don't guarantee uninterrupted service — we may take it offline for maintenance or upgrades, but we'll avoid this where reasonably possible.

Accounts and subscriptions

  • You must be 13 or over to subscribe. By subscribing you confirm you have the authority to do so.
  • You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. Sign-in is handled by Clerk.
  • The subscription gives you the right to run unlimited tournaments while the subscription is active. If your payment lapses, you keep read access to past leaderboards but cannot start new games.
  • Subscriptions auto-renew. You can cancel any time from the billing portal. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current paid period; we don't pro-rate.
  • Statutory consumer rights, including the UK 14-day cooling-off period for digital services, are not affected by these terms. You may waive the cooling-off period by starting to use the service inside that window — once you create or run a tournament, the service has been delivered.

Joining as a player

  • Anyone with a tournament invite link can join by picking a username. No payment, no account.
  • The organiser of the tournament can remove or ban you from their tournament if your behaviour disrupts it.
  • Pick a username that the rest of the team is comfortable seeing. Usernames are filtered against an offensive-content list, but the organiser may also remove names they consider inappropriate.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • impersonate another player or organiser
  • cheat, automate, or exploit bugs to influence scores
  • post anything illegal, harassing, hateful, or that infringes someone else's rights
  • interfere with the service, attempt unauthorised access, or reverse-engineer any part of it beyond what UK law expressly allows
  • use the service to send unsolicited messages or marketing to other players

We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms. Organisers are responsible for content that appears in tournaments they run, including tournament names and rosters.

Content and intellectual property

You keep ownership of any content you create — tournament names, usernames, and so on. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display that content within the service for as long as we're running it. We own the software, the dictionary curation, the brand, and the design. You don't get a licence to those beyond what's needed to use the service.

Service availability and changes

We may add, remove, or change features at any time. If a change materially reduces what subscribers get, we'll give reasonable notice and offer a refund pro-rated to the unused portion of the current billing period.

Liability

Lexica is provided “as is”. We don't exclude or limit liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud. Subject to that, our total liability to you for any claim arising from the service is limited to the greater of £100 or the amount you paid in the 12 months before the claim arose.

We're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, lost data beyond what reasonable backups would have recovered, or losses you couldn't reasonably have foreseen at the time of subscription.

Termination

You can stop using Lexica at any time by cancelling your subscription and deleting your tournaments. We can suspend or close accounts that breach these terms or where required by law. After termination, public leaderboards from your tournaments may remain accessible for a reasonable period unless you ask us to remove them.

Refunds

We don't offer routine refunds for unused time on a current billing period — cancel from the billing portal and you won't be charged again. If something has gone seriously wrong (e.g. extended outage, billing error), email support@vowelmovement.fun and we'll do what's right.

Privacy and cookies

See the privacy policy and cookies page for how we handle your data.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be heard in the English courts, except where your local consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the last change. Material changes affecting subscribers will be emailed in advance.
